Foliage in Baracks Row

If you’re raking fall leaves on the Hill, here’s when to put them near the curb.

Residents and businesses in Ward 6 north of East Capitol Street NE can put leaves out now through Nov. 15 and again Nov. 30 through Dec. 1. Department of Public Works crews will serve the southern half of the neighborhood Nov. 15-29 and again Dec. 15-27.

DPW asks that residents rake leaves into tree box spaces or put them in bags. Since workers will use vacuum trucks, they ask that you leave out branches and other items that could damage the equipment and delay collection.

Collecting leaves prevents storm drains from clogging and cuts down on pedestrian accidents, according to DPW.

The leaf collection schedule is subject to change based on winter weather. Updated information will be available here.
