Stunning Homes on the Hill Sought for House Tour
Want to show off your beautiful Capitol Hill home or garden?
The Capitol Hill Restoration Society is now accepting nominations for their 2015 Mother’s Day House and Garden Tour.
The event gives more than 1,400 people the chance to see inside homes and yards they pass every day, CHRS president Lisa Dale Jones said.
“Capitol Hill is a special place, and we love to show it off,” Jones said by email. “We have amazing historic homes here, and we also have interesting residents, who fill their homes with art and antiques or with items they’ve collected as they work and live around the world and then come to the Hill.”
Next year’s event, scheduled to take place May 9 and 10, will tour homes near Stanton Park and down Massachusetts Avenue NE toward Lincoln Park. Hill residents who live within a few blocks of those areas can nominate their own homes or those of their neighbors. The last two tours showcased buildings along East Capitol Street and near Folger Park.
The tour that’s set to be held for the 58th year typically includes 12 to 14 homes and 2 to 3 gardens. The organization looks for houses that have unique architectural features, stunning interior design or an interesting art or antique collection, Jones said. The group also considers places that have any historical significance.
“Many of our homes hit all the buttons,” Jones said.
Nominations can be submitted through Jan. 23. Interested residents should contact Alia Khan at [email protected] to request an evaluation form.
