Man Caught on Video Swiping Package From 8th Street NE Doorstep

A man was caught on video stealing a package off an 8th Street NE doorstep.

Video that police distributed last night (Monday) shows a man in a black cap and burgundy coat pacing on the 900 block of 8th Street NE, between I and K streets NE. He appears to talk on the phone, and then approaches a home. He steps away carrying a box and walks away.

The video of the person of interest was captured by a home surveillance system about 3:40 p.m. last Wednesday, police said.

First District police warned locals late last month about package and mail theft, and advised residents to pick up all packages as soon as possible and pay for package tracking.
