The much-discussed Popup Cat Cafe will be held tonight (Thursday) at the 1353 H St. NE club Rock & Roll Hotel.

The Washington Humane Society will be on hand from 5 to 8 p.m. with cats up for adoption. The cats can be found in Rock & Roll Hotel’s VIP rooms, “where you will be able to pet and play with them,” according to the club’s website. Admission is free.

Club management got the idea to hold a popup cat cafe when they heard last month that an entrepreneur is trying to open a permanent cafe cafe in the area, partner Steve Lambert told Washington City Paper.

“If everyone survives coming to Rock & Roll Hotel with the amount of weirdos that come through here anyway, I think they will be okay with cats in cages,” he said.

Cat cafes with admission fees are popping up across the country to spur adoptions, The New York Times reported.
