Souk Spice Market and Bakery Coming to Barracks Row

A new shop called Souk is getting closer to opening near the Eastern Market Metro station.

Signage is now up for Souk, at 705 8th St. SE. The shop will sell spices and other grocery items, according to local business group Barracks Row Main Street. Its owner is Winnette McIntosh Ambrose, who runs the nearby bakery Sweet Lobby and won the Food Network show “Cupcake Wars” in 2012.

Photos posted to the business’ Facebook show that chefs are working on bread and pastries. Nearby bakeries include Spring Mill Bread and District Doughnut. Souk’s storefront next to City Bikes was formerly home to Hello Cupcake.
