(Updated at 11:20 a.m.) Hill residents trying to get to work on the first Monday of the new year faced a long line at the Eastern Market Metro station.
Commuters posted online that only one faregate to enter the station was working about 8:50 a.m. today (Monday). Photos posted to Twitter, including those retweeted by the popular account @unsuckdcmetro, show a line of more than 20 people.
The glitch lasted about 10 minutes and was resolved by 8:58 a.m., a WMATA spokeswoman said. Technicians needed to replace the SmarTrip card reader.
