Youth Chorus Auditions Are Being Held on H Street NE
(Updated at 2:45 p.m.) Local kids can join a choir that has performed at the White House and the Library of Congress.
The American Youth Chorus is holding auditions at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. At the tryouts for children age 8 to 14, artistic director David Simmons will evaluate singers’ ability to learn songs, match pitches and hold voice parts, a statement from the group says.
The 75-person choir aims to combine “choral excellence, community outreach and affordable music education,” their website says. The group is divided into a junior division for kids age 8 to 10 and a senior division for youth age 11 to 14.
The next show by the chorus will be “Musical Momentum: Changing the World, One Song at a Time,” set to open April 11.
For more information or to schedule an audition time, see the choir’s website. Singers aren’t required to prepare a song in advance.
