Man Killed in Domestic Assault on 19th Street NE

A man who was stabbed this morning near Benning Road died of his injuries after what police called a domestic assault.

Marvin Stewart, 49, was found with stab wounds about 11:35 a.m. on the 700 block of 19th Street NE, police said. Fifth District officers found the Northeast D.C. resident unconscious. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital, police said.

Brandon Bruce Franklin, a 26-year-old Laurel, Maryland resident, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder while armed.

Information on what preceded the attack was not immediately available, D.C. police spokesman Hugh Carew said.

The homicide is the second recorded in D.C. in 2015, after a 35-year-old man was fatally shot in Southeast D.C. on Saturday.
