Opera on Tap (Photo via Facebook/Opera on Tap D.C. Metro)(Updated at 3:25 p.m.) You can listen to opera and sip a beer at the same time tonight.

Opera singers will perform Monday at the H Street NE bar Vendetta. Eight vocalists are set to take the stage starting at 7 p.m. at 1212 H St. NE.

Show organizer Opera on Tap — a Brooklyn, New York-based nonprofit with 16 national chapters — aims to keep classical music alive, Carla Rountree, co-director of the D.C. chapter said.

“We like to make opera more accessible to people, to dispel the notion that it’s something only rich people do and you need a lot of money to enjoy,” she said.

The singers will perform a mix of songs from operas and musical theater, including selections from “La Traviata,” “Carmen” and “Camelot.”

“[The concerts] have been really successful in getting people to experience opera who never have,” said Rountree, who lives in Hill East.

The concerts tend to draw a mix of opera fans and people who don’t know the art form as well, Opera on Tap founder Anne Hiatt told the New York Daily News. Attendees like that they don’t need to devote a whole evening to the high arts.

“You’re not trapped for three hours,” Hiatt told the paper.

Admission is free but donations will be accepted.
