Bystander May Have Been Hit in H Street NE Shooting
The gunfire on H Street NE Saturday hit two men — not one as the Metropolitan Police Department said initially — and police are still figuring out if the second victim was an innocent bystander.
A man was shot in the buttocks, in addition to the man shot in the chest, First District Commander Jeff Brown said this afternoon.
The shooting does not appear to have been random; the man shot in the chest was the intended victim, according to the preliminary investigation. But it isn’t clear yet whether the second man shot was also targeted or if he was caught in the gunfire, Brown said.
The shooting on the busy 900 block of H Street NE sent at least one pedestrian scrambling for cover about 8:20 p.m. Saturday. The man hit in the chest was conscious and breathing when he was found.
Police was searching Saturday night for a black SUV, possibly with a Washington Redskins logo in the back window. No other suspect information was available Monday afternoon.
