Nationals Hold Tryouts for Racing Presidents
The Washington Nationals will soon have a new team of Racing Presidents.
Auditions were held this weekend to replace the 12-foot-tall mascots. Of the 250 people who applied for the positions, 32 were invited to try out, WTOP reported. The prospectives ran a 40-yard dash, struck victory poses and danced for the judges, all wearing a 50-pound costume.
Team entertainment manager Tom Davis said he was seeking mascots with pizzazz.
“Definitely someone who has the ability to run, obviously,” he told MLB.com. “That’s a main part, seeing as they’re racers. But personality is a big part of it, as well.”
Just one woman was among the competitors — a mom who rehearsed by running with her children on her shoulders.
The winners are expected to be selected by the end of next week.
