Man Sought for Armed Robbery Near Union Market

A man armed with pepper spray committed a robbery on the block full of wholesalers and warehouses just west of Union Market.

The midday crime occurred about 12:20 p.m. Monday on the 1300 block of 4th Street NE. Surveillance video shows a man with dreadlocks sprinting away from a man who appears to be pointing a gun at him. Police identified the man with dreadlocks as a person of interest.

More information on the circumstances of the robbery was not immediately available.

Overall crime in Police Service Area 506 — which covers NoMa north of Florida Avenue NE — is 43 percent higher this year thus far than the same period last year. Eighty-three crimes have been reported in the area in January so far, compared with 58 crimes in the same period in 2014, Metropolitan Police Department data shows.

Anyone who can identify this individual or who has knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police at 202-727-9099 or text your tip to the Department’s text tip line at 50411. The Department currently offers a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a violent offense, including armed robbery, committed in the District of Columbia.
