Water Main Break Backing Up Traffic on North Capitol Street

A water main break on North Capitol Street north of Florida Avenue is backing up traffic in NoMa and Near Northeast for nearly a mile.

Workers are doing emergency repairs on a water main at North Capitol Street and Quincy Place NE after a rupture, police said about 4:35 p.m.

The pre-rush hour incident has snarled traffic in both directions from Quincy Place NE to K Street NE, which is about 12 blocks south.

Crews across the region are scrambling to repair water mains that have burst during freezing temperatures.
