Teen Charged for Capitol Hill Robberies

(Updated at 12:05 p.m.) A teenager is facing charges for robberies reported earlier this week on residential blocks of Near Northeast.

Malik Williams of Southeast was arrested Wednesday on charges he robbed someone outside on the 500 block of 12th Street NE, near Maryland Avenue NE, about 5 p.m. Sunday. He was unarmed, police said.

Williams hit a second victim outside the following night, about 5:15 p.m. Monday on the 500 block of 7th Street NE, police said. He was unarmed then, too, they said.

Williams also was charged with stealing three cars east of the Anacostia River this year, police said. The thefts occurred after the cars’ owners left their keys in their vehicles, police said.

No information on Williams’ lawyer appears in online court records.

Robberies reported in Police Service Area 104, which includes the 500 block of 7th Street NE and the H Street NE corridor, increased about 28 percent between March 5, 2014, and March 5, 2015, and the previous one-year period. In the past month, 11 robberies were reported, eight more than the previous month, Metropolitan Police Department data shows.

In PSA 107, which covers the 500 block of 12th Street NE, Eastern Market and Lincoln Park, robberies reported decreased about 15 percent between March 5, 2014, and March 5, 2015, and the previous one-year period. Five robberies were reported in the area in the past month, three more than the previous month.
