Rose’s Luxury Owner Could Be ‘People’s Best New Chef’
Chef Aaron Silverman of Rose’s Luxury could pick up another honor for his acclaimed Barracks Row eatery next week.
Silverman is one of 11 chefs vying for Food & Wine magazine’s People’s Best New Chef for the Mid-Atlantic region. F&W is accepting votes from the public on its website until Wednesday. The magazine will reveal the winner the following day.
In addition to Silverman, three other contenders for the honor work in D.C. restaurants. Mike Friedman of The Red Hen, Katsuya Fukushima of Daikaya and Marjorie Meek-Bradley of Ripple and Roofers Union are among the 11 nominees.
Named “America’s best new restaurant of 2014” by Bon Appétit, Rose’s Luxury (717 8th St. SE) has grilled pork blade steak, ricotta-stuffed gnocchi and Korean fried catfish on its most recent menu.
Zagat called Rose’s Luxury the District’s top purveyor of small plates and tapas in the restaurant guide’s 2015 rankings released last month. The reservation-free eatery also topped Washingtonian’s reader restaurant poll last year.
