Man Filmed Stealing Package From Near Northeast Doorstep

A package thief has been caught on camera again near the H Street corridor.

A man with a brown coat and a white plastic bag approached a house on the 900 block of 9th Street NE and walked away with a box, a video police distributed today shows.

A home surveillance system captured the video of the person of interest about noon on Friday, police said.

Police in December previously distributed a video of a man stealing a package from a doorstep on the 900 block of 8th Street NE. A 9th Street NE resident fed up with package thefts also recorded a man taking a box full of dog poop she left for the unsuspecting thief.

The number of reported package thefts has “drastically” dropped in the First District since the holiday season, Cmdr. Jeff Brown said last month.

David Heyman, a Hill East resident who has a camera trained on his doorstep, told Hill Now last month that his family avoids having packages sit on their front stoop for long.

“If we’re planning to order something, I ask my wife her schedule so we can have it delivered when someone is home,” he said.
