Man With Knife Arrested at Hill East Safeway After Attempted Shoplifting
A man was arrested Wednesday night for assault with a dangerous weapon in connection to an attempted theft at the Safeway on 14th and D Street SE.
D.C. police said that a Safeway security officer initially detained the two men for shoplifting when one of them produced a knife in an attempt to flee.
Police responded and arrested the armed individual, though the second suspect was able to escape prior to police arrival. Police described the suspect at large as a black male in his late 20s or early 30s, but would not provide any further details.
Yesterday Jonathan Plather, 23, was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon in connection to the incident. A representative at the Safeway declined to speak about the matter.
