Man Wanted for Shooting Boy in Hill East Arrested
(Updated at 10 a.m. Thursday) A man suspected of shooting a boy in Hill East last week has been apprehended.
Malique Haynes, 20, was arrested yesterday in connection with the shooting on the 200 block of 15th Street SE last Wednesday, police said. The arrest for assault with intent to kill or poison happened on the 1700 block of Independence Avenue SE, about two blocks from the shooting.
Information on the suspect’s lawyer wasn’t immediately available.
The victim was on 15th Street about 10:15 p.m. on July 15 when a man shot him, according to authorities.
The man had demanded property from the boy and shot him when he tried to flee, police said initially. But authorities now have found that a robbery didn’t occur, and the shooting came after an argument.
The victim and the suspect know each other, police added.
The juvenile was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
