UPDATED: Man Shot, Killed in Southwest

1300 block of 1st Street SW (Photo via Google Maps)(Updated at 11 a.m.) A man was fatally shot in Southwest yesterday afternoon.

The shooting happened on the 1300 block of 1st Street SW about 5 p.m., police said. The area is about a block from the King Greenleaf Recreation Center and the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District headquarters.

Jerome Diggs, a 47-year-old Southwest D.C. resident, was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, according to authorities.

He was brought to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Police haven’t released a description of the shooter.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
