Report: Latin American Eatery on Barracks Row to Move to New 8th Street SE Location

Las Placitas Restaurant on Barracks Row will head a few blocks south of its current location later this year to make room for an expansion of the neighboring Matchbox restaurant, a local news blog reported last night.

The Mexican-Salvadorian eatery at 517 8th St. SE will move to a building at 8th and M streets SE at some point this year, according to Capitol Hill Corner. The space across from the Washington Navy Yard and the “Blue Castle” building was formerly a Quiznos.

Las Placitas will lose its lease at its current location this fall, Capitol Hill Corner reported in May. The owner of the space has permitted Matchbox to expand its restaurant into the space when Las Placitas leaves.

A representative of the Latin American restaurant didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
