Cantina Regatta (Photo via DC Sail)Sailboats are set to sprint along the Southwest waterfront this weekend in a race to raise to money for youth sailing.

DC Sail’s Cantina Cup Regatta fundraiser is slated to begin Saturday at 10 a.m. Now in its eighth year, the competition raises money to help local children attend the program’s high school and summer camp sailing programs.

The only way to see the race up-close is to get a ticket on the spectator boat, a 65-foot schooner that will sail near the racing area. About a dozen spectator boat tickets remained as of 2:30 p.m. today, according to Traci Mead, director of business operations for DC Sail.

Those who don’t get a ticket on the spectator boat or miss the sailboats dash by The Wharf still can catch the after party from 5 to 10 p.m. at Cantina Marina (600 Water St SW). The party’s $40 tickets cover a dinner buffet and drinks. Both the spectator boat and the after-party are restricted to people who are 21 years old or older.

DC Sail expects to raise $60,000 at this year’s event, Mead said.
