Malique Haynes, 20, pleaded guilty to the July shooting on the 200 block of 15th Street SE in August, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Haynes shot a 15-year-old boy on July 15 about 10:10 p.m. during a robbery attempt, the U.S. Attorney’s office said. Haynes told the boy to empty his pockets and when the boy said he had no money and began walking away, Haynes shot the boy in the stomach, hitting his liver and kidney.

Haynes was arrested for the shooting on July 21. After he serves his five-year prison sentence, Haynes will be placed on three years of supervised release.
