Witness Scares Off Would-Be Carjackers Near H Street Corridor
A witness scared away some would-be carjackers who tried to take a vehicle from a man at gunpoint yesterday afternoon, police said.
The attempted carjacking happened on the 1100 block of I Street NE about 12:15 p.m. Monday.
The car’s driver was eating in his vehicle when a young man knocked on his window with a handgun, according to authorities. The victim then got out of the car.
After patting the victim down, the gunman hopped into the car with another young man. But before they were able to drive away, the victim reached into the vehicle and grabbed the gunman, who flashed his weapon again.
The two young men and another young man, who was acting as a lookout, saw someone watching them soon after and ran away with the victim’s iPhone.
Police described the suspect with the gun as:
A black male wearing a black hoodie and black pants, 18-20 years old, slim build and armed with a silver handgun.
Authorities didn’t have detailed descriptions of the other suspects.
