Hello! I’m Tigress! I was brought to the shelter as a stray several years ago and adopted quickly, but it didn’t work out with my new owner long-term so now I’m back (through no fault of my own!). My previous owner says I’m good with kids and other dogs, but I haven’t been around any kiddos here so the shelter staff doesn’t know for sure. They do know that I’m a smart dog! My old owner had me for over a year and worked with me on housebreaking and taught me tricks like how to give kisses on demand. Maybe my new owners can teach me some new tricks? Could that be you?

Stormy is the Hill Pet of the Week. She is a Papillon mix, who is available for adoption. Here’s her bio shared by Josh White, who is fostering her for the Washington Humane Society:
Stormy is a total lovebug, with her favorite activities being cuddles and belly rubs. She has a tendency to snore and enjoys nothing more than cozying up on a warm lap after trotting around on her walk around the block. She also likes having her hair brushed out and looks adorable after her trip to our local groomer for a nice “summer do.” She is friendly with other small dogs and walks well on a leash, bouncing along while stopping occasionally to smell the roses. She’d probably be fine with calm, older children. Most importantly, Stormy is looking for a loving forever home who will give her peace, stability and kindness for the rest of her golden years.

Cupcake is the Hill Pet of the Week. She’s a 1-year-old cat who can be adopted from City Dog Rescue’s City Kitties program. Here’s her bio shared by her foster parent, Jessie Hillenbrand:
Cupcake recently made her way up from North Carolina. She keeps consistent with her namesake and is as sweet as can be. She’s approximately 1 year old and is a purr machine who loves to snuggle, play and lick anyone petting her. Did I mention she’s teeny tiny? She’s full-grown and only about 6lbs. Cupcake is also short haired, making her a minimal shedder. She currently lives with a dog and has absolutely no issues.
She will also be great with other cats and can be a confidant to your already-existing fur friend. Please consider adopting Cupcake. She’s a real sweetheart!

I am not a fancy guy; I am very partial to dry food and prefer my food to come in fun shapes and colors. I am FIV+ but it doesn’t hold me back and “making biscuits” is what you will find me doing most of my day. I am looking for a home that can be patient and kind and I promise to return the favor. I don’t prefer to be picked up because it makes me feel nervous but when you call “Mason Kitty” I come running. I love toys and have grown very fond of cuddling with the soft ones and batting the ping pong balls around.

I love the company of people but I also know how to keep myself entertained when we can’t be together so I’d be a great kitty for someone who works a lot or has a busy schedule. Let’s get one thing straight though: I am not a lap cat, and I like attention on my own terms. This means that sometimes I am in the mood to be pet, but most of the time I would rather do my own thing. I came to WHS as a stray over a year ago, and I was really happy to be off the streets. He was a wonderful family dog for 9 years, before circumstances changed and they were no longer able to keep him. He has been doing great in his foster home and loves his foster sister, Foxy. Valerie is a sweet and energetic young dog who loves running and playing with friends. She gets along well with other dogs and people, rarely barks and is house trained. At 39 pounds, she’s the perfect size!

Jack is the Hill Pet of the Week. He’s a two-year-old cat, who can be adopted from City Dog Rescue’s City Kitties program. Here’s his bio shared by his foster parent, Katie Baumer:
Are you looking for a cat that is both super fun and snuggly? Jack is your handsome man!
While living with his foster mom, Jack has demonstrated many talents. In fact, one might call him a Jack of all trades. He will happily inspect all mail and packages, maintain your sink plumbing, keep you company while you cook, nurse you back to health when you’re sick and play fetch!
That is right! One of Jack’s favorite games is to carry his toy mice over to where you are, deposit them next to you, and then look at you with the hopes you will throw said mice for him to fetch. He’ll then barrel full speed after them and repeat. He’s awfully considerate, as he doesn’t even make his human get up. He meets them where they are!
Everyone who has met Jack simply loves him. He’s got his humans wrapped around his paw, and even has a volunteer catsitter lined up even when his human only leaves for a night, because everyone wants to hang out with Jack.
Jack is the ripe age of two, which means he’s self sufficient, but still has a really playful side. Jack is the little buddy you never knew you needed, purrfect cat for someone who might not consider themselves a “cat person,” because he will win everyone over!

They call me Lucky, but if you bring me home then you’ll be the lucky one! I’m an outgoing, fun-loving young pup who’s always ready for a walk or a game of fetch. I love being around all types of people, and will climb right into your lap, even if it’s the first time we’ve met! Everybody’s a friend to me.
I’m really smart too, and I’m a certified professional at “sit” and “down.” Everyone says I’m a quick learner, and every time I learn something new, I get a treat. That’s why I love training.
I’m still working on my puppy manners. It’s hard sometimes not to jump, since I’m always SO happy to see you! I’m getting better all the time, though! Right now I need to be the only pet in your life, but I’m all you could ever need.

Eclectic displays of original art, a vast array of styles and media, and the finest artists in the country will be featured during the 4th Annual Arlington Festival of the Arts April 16th and 17th. Produced by Howard Alan Events and hosted by the Clarendon Alliance, this two-day outdoor-juried art show is an ideal opportunity for art enthusiasts to explore the work of many different artists in one setting.
“We are excited to return to Clarendon,” says festival promoter Howard Alan. “The community here is supportive of the arts and truly appreciates and recognizes quality work.”
Bold and vibrant paintings, contemporary and whimsical art, life-size sculptures, photography and jewelry as well as functional art and unique gift items, all with broad appeal, will be on display and for sale. Prices will be set to suit all budgets and range from as little as $25 to $30,000.
“This event is a wonderful celebration of the arts,” affirms Alan. “It is very much like an outdoor art gallery, perfect for art enthusiasts and collectors interested in new quality investments by emerging artists as well as the casual shopper looking for unique gift items. We showcase the nation’s top artists and exceptional local talent with their finest works of art that will appeal to people of all ages as well as collectors with varied interests and budgets.”
The artists are juried by an independent panel of expert judges and hand-selected from hundreds of applicants based on quality and diversity. “Our goal is to provide a unique experience where festival goers can take in the sights, sounds and colors of a first-rate festival with a wide variety of art on display, while interacting with the artists,” assures Alan. “It is a terrific opportunity to explore the works of many different artists and discuss their inspiration and creative process before making an investment.” The exhibitors, present for the duration of the show, will set up their displays along Washington Boulevard.
Howard Alan Events develops and produces some of the nation’s finest juried art shows in more than 40 venues each year, many are ranked among the top 100 art fairs in the country by Sunshine Artist magazine. These shows, which attract locals and tourists alike, include the Alexandria King Street Art Festival (Alexandria, VA), the Downtown Aspen Art Festival (Aspen, CO), the Beaver Creek Art Festival (Beaver Creek, CO), and the Las Olas Art Fairs, (Fort Lauderdale, FL).
