2016 National Tribute Dinner United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
Join the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in conferring its highest honor, the Elie Wiesel Award, on Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), who was one of the “Big Six” leaders of the Civil Rights Movement. As a university student, he organized sit-ins at segregated lunch counters, participated in Freedom Rides, and led the march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge on “Bloody Sunday.” Though he was arrested over 40 times in nonviolent protests and endured physical brutality, he never abandoned his commitment to building “the Beloved Community” in America. Representative Lewis has served for three decades in the US Congress, where he is widely respected for his integrity and moral courage.
