Commuters in Union Station have a new meal option.

The fourth District location of ShopHouse, the Southeast Asian restaurant chain owned by Chipotle, is opening today (Wednesday) in Union Station.

“Our menu is designed to be flavorful, exciting and convenient, making it ideal for the fast-paced travelers coming through the station,” ShopHouse representative Tim Wildin said in a statement.

The restaurant will be open in the station’s West Wing from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., general manager Luis DeLeon said. The chain uses the same format as Chipotle: customers build their meals as they move from station to station.

Diners select a base of rice, noodles or salad, and then add a meat or tofu, and then a vegetable. The meals are then topped with tamarind vinaigrette, green curry, spicy red curry or peanut sauce.

ShopHouse, whose menu is entirely dairy-free and gluten-free, also sells a dessert parfait of sweet coconut rice topped with mango and sesame seeds.

Customers who mention the Capital Area Food Bank at ShopHouse today will have 100 percent of the proceeds of their meal donated to the food bank. Like Chipotle, ShopHouse prides itself on using locally grown food and responsibly raised meat.
