Lumber Shed (Photo via Capitol Riverfront BID)Two restaurants set to open next year in Navy Yard now have the go-ahead from the community.

ANC 6D approved liquor licenses last night (Monday) for Navy Yard Oyster Company and Due South. Both restaurants will open in the Lumber Shed building at 301 Water St. SE, which is also home to Osteria Morini and Agua 301.

Navy Yard Oyster Company is looking at opening in “May or June,” a representative said, noting its owners run Beuchert’s Saloon and Sonoma Restaurant & Wine Bar. The 73-seat restaurant with two outdoor gardens will serve locally sourced small plates.

“Thank you for bringing oysters back to the waterfront,” ANC 6D Commissioner Andy Litsky said before commissioners approved the license.

Due South, a 199-seat Southern restaurant from Georgetown Events — which owns Smith Point in Georgetown — was approved for a restaurant license after the company applied for a tavern license.

Georgetown Events owner Bo Blair said the designation will cost his company money, forcing them to keep their kitchen open later though few people will order food.

Commissioners reasoned that Due South should have a restaurant liquor license because it’s the type of license granted to all other Lumber Shed bar/restaurants.
