Po Boy Jim (Photo via Facebook/ Po Boy Jim)More karaoke and DJ sets are slated to come to H Street NE soon.

Po Boy Jim at 709 H St. NE was granted a liquor license change so it can hold live entertainment.

The Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration approved the restaurant’s application for an entertainment endorsement at its meeting on Wednesday.

Ian Reid, the nighttime manager at Po Boy Jim, told ABRA that the bar and grill plans to host karaoke, one-person musical performances during brunch, and DJ sets in the evenings. He added that the restaurant does not plan to have a dance floor.

Though ABRA approved the restaurant’s application, it did limit the hours that it can host live entertainment in response to complaints about noise from several neighbors. The restaurant can host live entertainment in its summer garden area until 8 p.m., at which point all live music must take place inside, with the windows and doors closed.

ABRA also ordered that live entertainment must stop at 10 p.m. on weeknights and midnight on weekends and bars the restaurant from charging a cover charge.

Po Boy Jim also added two cinder block walls to the restaurant to improve soundproofing.

Several neighbors of the restaurant also complained to ABRA that the restaurant was poorly managing its trash, but the board concluded that the trash issues did not merit a denial of the entertainment endorsement.
